Giving Hope to those in Need - Julia D
We are incredibly grateful for this support, and one family's reaction in particular will stay with us for a long time. A community member named Maria recently experienced a house fire and is also recovering from surgery. She first connected with us when she was in need of a meal for Thanksgiving. Since then, we have stayed in touch with her as her family continues to stay in their apartment amidst financial struggles. She has been carrying so much, yet she was overwhelmed with gratitude when she learned her three oldest children would receive brand-new coats and shoes. She shared how deeply moved she was—not just by the items themselves, but by the reminder that her family hasn't been forgotten during such a difficult season. Being able to bless her children during this time meant everything to her, and witnessing that moment was incredibly powerful for our team. Having a local retailer support our organization means more than words can express. It sends a clear message to our families that their own community sees them, values them, and is willing to show up for them in meaningful ways. We are especially thankful that this generosity allows us to serve not only our residents at the Buffalo City Mission, but also families in need from the wider community who come to us seeking help. That kind of partnership expands our reach and deepens our impact. This gift will mean warmth, dignity, and confidence for the children—knowing they can go to school with new coats and shoes that fit and help them feel secure and included.
